Lib Dem campaigner joins with national figures to say 'Britain is stronger in the EU!'

A Lib Dem campaigner in Hinckley and Bosworth has joined with national political figures to promote a 'remain' vote in the upcoming referendum on Britain's membership of the European Union.

Mathew Hulbert, former Councillor in Hinckley and Bosworth, attended the rally held at St Martin's House in Leicester, which saw Lib Dem former Secretary of State for Business, Innovation and Skills Sir Vince Cable, Green Party MP Caroline Lucas and former Labour leadership contender Liz Kendall MP speak to a packed room.

The 'Lead Not Leave' Rally was organised by the European Movement UK, which has been campaigning for Britain's future in Europe since 1947.

Mr Cable spoke about the potential economic consequences of voting for 'Brexit, suggesting it could lead to a recession, and saying that whilst some divorces work others are bloody and painful.

Ms Lucas spoke about the importance to the environment of a 'remain' vote and how a vote for 'Brexit' could see vitally needed environmental protections be lost, as well as a collapse in the multi-nation effort to tackle Climate Change.

Ms Kendall talked about how, if we voted for 'Brexit' those who lose out will not be Nigel Farage or Boris Johnson but hard-working people in Leicestershire and across the country, who could see their hard fought for Rights-at-Work be lost without the protections guaranteed by our membership of the European Union.

Mr Hulbert says "It was fantastic to be part of this occasion, with respected national political figures making serious and consequential speeches about why it's so important for our future that we vote to remain in the EU, on June 23rd.

"At the event, as an LGBT Rights campaigner, I raised the issue of how the European Union and the European Convention of Human Rights had helped lead to a host of increased rights for members of our communities and the potential risk to those rights if we vote to leave the EU.

"I was also interviewed, at the event, for the BBC's 'East Midlands Today' programme which was covering it.

"I believe, with all of my heart and mind, that Britain is richer, safer, greener, more influential and stronger in the European Union.

"I urge everyone to vote 'remain' on June 23rd, for our future and those of upcoming generations."
