Lib Dem leader Vince Cable holds successful visit to Hinckley
Leader of the Liberal Democrats Sir Vince Cable MP visited Hinckley to meet local Lib Dem supporters and to talk to local school and college principals and students about problems with education under-funding.
Vince Cable said "It was great to see the wonderful work being done at the Hinckley Academy and the North Warwickshire and Hinckley College.
"The message that was clearly being put across though was the lack of funding for education. This is particularly a problem in Leicestershire which has one of the lowest levels of funding in the country, with Leicestershire getting nearly £5,000 less per pupil than the best funded schools. I'm glad to hear that local Lib Dem Councillors are arguing the case for fair funding for Leicestershire schools.
"It was good to meet the local Lib Dem team. The Lib Dems need to gain only six seats to win back Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council from the Conservatives in May. Whilst at the last general election the Lib Dem vote in Bosworth was the highest number of votes for the Lib Dems in any seat in the Midlands."
Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman for Hinckley and Bosworth Councillor Michael Mullaney said "It was excellent to have Vince Cable visit Hinckley to hear about our local campaigns and the need for fairer education spending for Leicestershire. Hinckley and Bosworth was rated in the lowest ten places in the country for social mobility recently. It's vital that every local young person gets the chance of a quality education that is properly funded to give them the best chance of succeeding in life."
