Lib Dems brand Tories "hypocrites" over town centre plans
Castle Ward Lib Dem Focus Editor Stuart Bray said, "In 2003 the Conservatives came to office with a promise to keep Council Tax down and stop plans for a supermarket in the town centre.
Four years on the Conservatives have now published their "Masterplan" for the town centre. Residents will be shocked and angry to discover that among other things it included plans for a supermarket in the town centre!
If plans do emerge for the bus station site the people must be consulted at an early stage and not when it's a "done deal."
For four years Liberal Democrats alone have fought solidly against the Tory plans to build on the precious green and open spaces around Argents Mead. These plans still exist however, and if elected on May 3rd the Liberal Democrats will tear them up!
Traffic problems in the town centre haven't got any easier over the last four years. With all the plans for new flats these problems will only get worse!
On top of all this how much will the plans to pull down the Council Offices and rebuild them elsewhere cost us?"
