Lib Dems call for Barwell Post Office to be saved
Liberal Democrats in Barwell are calling on residents to have their say in a consultation on the future of the village's High Street Post Office.
It is currently threatened with closure, with some (but not all) of its services set to move into a newsagents.
There's concerns about what'll happen to the services which are lost and whether they'll be enough privacy for those wanting to conduct transactions if the change does happen.
Cllr Michael Mullaney, the Party's Parliamentary Spokesman for Hinckley and Bosworth, says "A Post Office is a vital service for a community the size of Barwell and I hope that-even at this stage, the Post Office can be kept.
"Many residents in Barwell are concerned about the proposals and I hope that as many as possible will respond to the consultation."
Barwell Campaigner and former Councillor for the village Mathew Hulbert adds:
"Several residents have spoken to me about their concerns if the Post Office were to be lost."
"There's a number of worries, including the potential lack of privacy if some of its services are moved into another retailer.
"Barwell needs a full Post Office, delivering all of its services, not a kind of half-way house, and so I urge people to take part in the current consultationand make their voices heard."
