Lib Dems call for rural pharmacies to be saved
Liberal Democrats in Hinckley and Bosworth are campaigning to save rural pharmacies. It follows the news that the Primary Care Trust (PCT) are planning to remove support from pharmacies associated with village doctor's surgeries.
The pharmacies under threat include the ones at the doctors' surgeries in Barlestone, Newbold Verdon, Desford, Market Bosworth and Stoke Golding.
Cllr Bill Crooks, Lib Dem Rural Affairs spokesman, will be tabling a motion to the March 21st meeting of Hinckley and Bosworth council calling for the pharmacies to be kept.
Cllr Crooks said "These pharmacies are a vital service in these villages. In some of these villages they are the only pharmacy. Getting rid of them will mean that many sick people may have to travel further to collect their medicines.
"We are urging the PCT to think again and continue supporting these pharmacies".
The text of Cllr Crooks motion is as follows
"In view of the threat to the future of the pharmacies associated with the doctors' surgeries at Barlestone, Newbold Verdon, Desford, Market Bosworth and Stoke Golding, this Council re-iterates its support for the continuation of the network of rural pharmacies and instructs the Chief Executive to ensure that the PCT is made fully aware of the strong feelings of the local community that this most essential of all public services should flourish and prosper."
