Lib Dems celebrate Burbage by-election success
Local Liberal Democrats swept to victory in the Burbage Stretton Parish by-election held recently.
The Lib Dem candidate Keith Lynch secured 354 votes, to 296 for the Conservatives and 101 for Labour.
Speaking after winning the seat Keith Lynch said "A big thank you to everyone in Burbage Stretton who voted for me. I'm honoured to have got such strong support from local people. I will continue to campaign all year round in the local area and to continue to fight for action to deal with parking problems in Burbage and the need to stop the over-development of the village."
Cllr Stuart Bray Lib Dem group leader on Hinckley and Bosworth said "Congratulations to Keith Lynch on a great victory. This election is a verdict on 14 months of Tory rule in Hinckley and Bosworth. Many residents are angry that the Conservatives gained power calling for low Council Tax, opposing a Brown Bin Tax and claiming they would fight to defend Burbage green spaces from development. Now, after just over a year, we've seen the Tories hike up Council Tax, charge for the Brown Bins and allow developments in Burbage such as the 80 houses off Lutterworth Road."
Cllr Michael Mullaney Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Bosworth said "This is a great result for the local Lib Dem team. The Conservatives defeat in Burbage shows there's no honeymoon for Theresa May here. The nightmare continues for Jeremy Corbyn's Labour with them finishing a poor third. Labour continue to be irrelevant here. If people want a change from the Conservatives locally, this result shows yet again that only the Lib Dems can challenge the Conservatives in our area."
