23 Oct 2012

Liberal Democrats in Hinckley and Bosworth are celebrating after they gained a Council seat from the Conservatives unopposed in Burbage.

A by-election was due to be held on November the 15th for a seat in the Sketchley Ward of Burbage Parish Council.

The election will not now go ahead as no Conservative candidate stood. The Liberal Democrat candidate Steve Deeming was elected the new Burbage Parish Councillor unopposed.

Leader of the Borough Council Stuart Bray, who is also County Councillor for Burbage said "This is a great result for local Liberal Democrats Steve Deeming does lots of work in the community and will be a real asset to the team in Burbage.

"Not many years ago every seat on Burbage Parish Council was Conservative. Now the Lib Dems have 14 seats and the Conservatives just 6. It is clear that many people in Burbage appreciate and support the all year round action they get from the local Liberal Democrat team."
