Lib Dems win in Hinckley and Bosworth- Again
30 Mar 2012
Liberal Democrats in Hinckley and Bosworth are celebrating the gaining of a Parish Council seat from the Conservatives tonight. Liberal Democrat Maureen Lynch won a seat in the Burbage St Catherines Ward with 266 votes to 214 for the Conservatives. A 9% swing from Conservative to Lib Dem compared to last year's election. Cllr Stuart Bray, County Councillor for Burbage and Leader of Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council said, "This is a great result and shows the Liberal Democrats in Hinckley and Bosworth continuing to go from strength to strength. "People in Burbage told us they appreciate the Lib Dems all year round action for local people and supported our campaigns to tackle speeding on some local roads and to stop cutbacks to Police Community Support Officers. "Many Conservative supporters told us on the doorsteps that they are furious that Conservative County Councillors have spent over £1m on their Leader's Office and chauffeur-driven car. Especially at a time when the Conservative County Council is cutting many local services." The gain follows on from a Liberal Democrat win in a Parish by-election in Barwell last September when they secured a big increase in their vote. |
