Liberal Democrats condemn Composting Site appeal

7 Jul 2010

A leading local Liberal Democrat has condemned an attempt to resurrect plans to put a composting site in the local area.

Last year plans to put a composting site near the village of Fenny Drayton were thrown out by County Councillors. Now an appeal has been lodged to the planning Inspector asking for the compost site to be allowed to go ahead.

Michael Mullaney, Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman for Hinckley and Bosworth has now written to the planning Inspector urging them to reject the appeal.

Michael Mullaney said "Last year County Councillors, including local Lib Dems, voted to oppose the plans to put a composting site near to Fenny Drayton. It is sad that the applicant has decided to appeal against this decision by locally elected representatives.

"The composting site would produce gases, could encourage vermin and mean more lorries on local roads.

"Putting a composting site in Fenny Drayton was a bad idea when it was thrown out by councillors last year and it is still a bad idea now."

People can oppose the composting site by emailing nadia.hussain@pins.gsi.gov.uk

Or by post by sending three copies of their letter of objection to Planning Inspectorate, marked for the attention of Nadia Hussain, Room 3/20, Temple Quay House, 2 The Square, Temple Quay, Bristol BS1 6PN. Objectors will need to put the reference number APP/M2460/A/10/2128382/NWF on their letter/emails.
