Liberal Democrats head to conference after most successful election ever
In July’s election the Lib Dems elected 72 MPs. Among those attending the conference is Leader of the opposition on Leicestershire County Council Michael Mullaney. Michael said “What an amazing year so far for the Lib Dems. Great success nationally and massive progress locally. I stood in July’s general election in Hinckley and Bosworth for the Lib Dems and came a strong second to the Conservatives. There was a phenomenal swing of 19% from Conservative to Lib Dem in Hinckley and Bosworth and I reduced the Conservative majority from a huge 24,000 to just 5,000.
“The issues that we fought the general election on, protecting and improving NHS services, the need for more emphasis on the value of care and carers in society and the need to clean up our polluted rivers and waterways are still vital issues we need to campaign on. I’m glad we will be debating new innovative policies on the NHS and social care and cleaning up our waterways and I will be seeking to speak in the debates.”
