Liberal Democrats slam proposed care charge hike

19 Jan 2009

Liberal Democrats Councillors in Hinckley and Bosworth have launched a campaign against County Council plans to impose a massive rise in care charges.

Conservative run Leicestershire County Council are proposing to increase the charges for pensioners care from £8.80 to £9.20, a rise of 5%. This will mean that since 2005/6 charges for pensioners care will have risen by nearly 50%.

Liberal Democrat Cllr Stuart Bray, who is running the campaign against the rise in charges, said "Conservative bosses at County Hall are hitting some of the most vulnerable local people.

"Pensioners who are already struggling to meet the massive increases in fuel and food prices now face big rises in their care charges.

"At tomorrows Hinckley and Bosworth council meeting we will be putting forward an emergency report calling on the County Council to drop its plans to increase care charges"
