Liberal Democrats storm to victory in Barwell by-election
Liberal Democrat John Cullinane secured a stunning victory in the Barwell Parish by-election on Thursday.
Not only did the Liberal Democrats hold the seat but they achieved a 10% swing from Labour to the Lib Dems. Cllr Stuart Bray Leader of the local Borough Council said "This result is a huge vote of confidence in the Liberal Democrats leadership of both Barwell Parish Council and Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council.
"People in Barwell appreciate the way the local Liberal Democrats work all year round and listen to the views of local people. "This is a massive defeat for the Labour party. In the Blair years Barwell was a Labour stronghold, yet their vote collapsed in this election and they finished a poor third. The Bosworth Labour Party has suffered yet another massive defeat.
"As in May the Conservatives weren't even able to stand a candidate. "In May the Liberal Democrats stunningly gained Barwell Parish council by a landslide winning 11 of the 12 seats. Not only did we hold this seat in Barwell but we secured an even bigger win than we did in May".

The result of the Barwell St Mary's Parish by election held on 22nd September was Liberal Democrats 302 57.5% (+12.0% compared to May 2011) Independent 130 24.8% (-3.7%) Labour 93 17.7% (-8.3%
