Liberal Democrats sweep to victory in Hinckley and Bosworth
Liberal Democrats have kept control of Hinckley and Bosworth council.
The party took 18 seats with the Conservatives on 15 and Labour reduced to just 1 seat.
The Liberal Democrats also gained Burbage and Barwell parish councils.
Leader of the Borough Council, Lib Dem Cllr Stuart Bray said "This is a great vote of confidence by the people of Hinckley and Bosworth.
"People supported our strong record on the council. We have the lowest council tax in the county and have still managed to protect frontline local services.
"People appreciated how we campaigned to save local bus services from Conservative County Council cuts and that we were there by the side of local residents in the fight against plans for intrusive phone masts in Hinckley and Burbage.
"We had a stunning win in Groby taking a seat in one of the safest Conservative wards in the borough.
"Despite making gains nationally, Labour lost one of their two remaining seats in the borough and are completely out of the race locally."
The Lib Dems achieved a remarkable landslide in barwell parish council winning control of the council with 11 of the 12 seats.
They also gained control of Burbage with 12 seats to the Conservatives 8.
