Local Lib Dem activist given prime-time slot at national Conference to call for refunded Youth Services!
A LIB DEM activist has been given a prime-time slot to call on the Government to refund out-of-school Youth Services which have seen massive cuts imposed on them in recent years.
Mathew Hulbert, who represented Barwell on Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council until May this year and for four years was the authorities Children and Young People's Champion, is moving a motion on the issue at the national Liberal Democrat Autumn Party Conference in September which is being held in Bournemouth.
It'll take place as the last item on the agenda before the high-profile maiden leader's speech by the party's new leader Tim Farron, the MP for Westmorland and Lonsdale.
Mr Farron has visited Hinckley and Bosworth on a number of occasions, including when he was Party President and recently during the leadership campaign.
Last year Leicestershire County Council announced cuts of £800,000 to Children, Young Peoples and Families services.
Mr Hulbert says, "I'm proud to have been given this opportunity to raise this vitally important issue at a national level, calling on my Party's Parliamentarians and Councillors across the country to do all they can to call on those in Government-both local and national-to refund and revitalise these crucial services for young people.
When these services are axed it hurts most young people from the least well-off backgrounds and those who are the most vulnerable.
"With my motion taking place shortly before the leaders speech, it should be made to a near capacity auditorium at the Bournemouth International Centre."
"Locally I call on Tory-run Leicestershire County Council to reverse these catastrophic cuts which will have a detrimental affect on many young people here in Hinckley and Bosworth."
County Councillor Michael Mullaney, the Lib Dems Parliamentary Spokesperson for Bosworth, says "I'm pleased Mathew has this opportunity to highlight this issue which affects so many young people in our area.
We Lib Dems, here in Leicestershire and beyond, will continue to lead the calls for these services to be refunded."
