Local Lib Dems campaign for better rural broadband access
Hinckley and Bosworth Borough council have given their support to rural communities are seeking better broadband access.
Cllr Bill Crooks, Liberal Democrat rural affairs spokesman, submitted a motion to Thursday's council meeting calling on the government to give more support to rural communities in Hinckley and Bosworth and the rest of the Midlands who want access to broadband.
Faster internet access is vital not only for rural businesses, but also people looking for work, young people doing their studies and for entertainment.
Cllr Crooks said "Many people in local villages have told me how slow internet access is in their area. It's a particular hindrance for people who are running businesses in rural areas. They are put at a real disadvantage by being denied quick access to the internet.
"I hope the government listens to our concerns and gives more support to rural communities in Hinckley and Bosworth and more widely across the East Midlands in getting better broadband access."
