Massive Fire Service petition submitted
A petition of more than 4,500 names opposing cuts at Hinckley Fire Station has been submitted.
The petitions collected by local Firefighters, members of Hinckley Pensioners Action Group and Bosworth Liberal Democrat parliamentary campaigner Michael Mullaney have been handed over to Leicestershire County Councillor Stuart Bray.
Councillor Bray, who helped launch the campaign against the cuts and successfully proposed a motion to Hinckley and Bosworth council opposing the cuts, is submitting the petitions to Leicestershire Fire Authority.
Leicestershire Fire Authority are proposing to cut eight Firefighters posts from Hinckley Fire Station.
Liberal Democrat parliamentary campaigner Michael Mullaney said "The size of this petition shows how passionately so many local people feel on this issue. Hinckley's Fire Service lost one of its two Fire engines a few years ago now the Fire Authority want to cut eight Firefighters from Hinckley Fire Station.
"Local people have said enough is enough, Hinckley is a growing area and our Fire service is too vital to be cut any further."
The Fire Authority's consultation about the cuts ends this Saturday, 31st October
