Liberal Democrat members in Bosworth have selected Michael Mullaney to be their parliamentary candidate.

This is the third time Michael has stood for Bosworth, having finished a strong second to sitting Conservative MP David Tredinnick at the last two general elections.

Michael, who is a County Councillor for Hinckley said "I'm delighted that local members have backed me to stand for Bosworth again.

"Over the years in which I've stood for parliament here it's been great to campaign with residents on many local issues. Including the successful campaign to save Hinckley Ambulance Station when it was threatened with closure and the recent campaign to save the Hinckley area's second Fire Engine when it was threatened with being axed.

"I'm continuing to fight for our vital local services including our NHS. There's been huge support locally for keeping Mount Road Hospital in Hinckley. Our large, growing population needs an expanded health facility like a Walk-in Centre or Minor Injuries Unit in the town centre, what we don't need is cuts to our local NHS.

"I will also continue to campaign for reforms to the Planning Laws. Too many inappropriate housing developments are being built locally. These are often turned down by local Councillors in Hinckley but are then imposed upon the area by government Inspectors from outside the area,. This needs to change and the change has to happen to the Planning Laws made at Westminster.

"At the last two general elections I came a strong second to Tory MP David Tredinnick. Many people tell me it's time our area had an MP who lives locally and who fights on the issues that matter to local residents. With Labour a poor third here and out of the race, if enough people who want a new MP for Bosworth back me next time, it can be third time lucky and they will have a full-time MP fighting for people in our local area."
