Michael Mullaney discusses need for better local services with party leader

30 Sep 2019

The Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate for Hinckley and Bosworth Councillor Michael Mullaney recently met with party leader Jo Swinson recently where he discussed with her issues affecting the local area.

Michael Mullaney said "It was great to meet with Jo Swinson and talk about the issues affecting people in Hinckley and Bosworth. Our area is amongst the worst funded in the country for police, schools and local health services. We desperately need a government who will put the interests of people in our area higher up the agenda.

"I'm delighted Lib Dems have a fully costed plan for putting a penny on tax to deliver the extra resources that our NHS desperately needs. I'm also glad that the party has committed to a fair deal for the regions which means under the Lib Dems areas like Hinckley and Bosworth finally getting their fair share of resources for our essential public services.

"Jo Swinson has only been party leader for a matter of weeks yet already Lib Dems have gained a seat in a parliamentary by-election, regularly gain seats in local council by-elections, have had a massive increase in membership, including former Tory and Labour MPs joining us and in the opinion polls Lib Dem support has trebled in recent months.

"In May Lib Dems won Hinckley and Bosworth council, there's a real chance of the Lib Dems gaining Bosworth at the next general election from the Tories. If we do I look forward to the opportunity to work with Jo Swinson in parliament and champion the need for people in Hinckley and Bosworth to have better NHS services and more investment in local schools and the police"
