Michael Mullaney launches general election campaign at packed meeting

A packed meeting at the New Plough Inn in Hinckley saw Liberal Democrat parliamentary candidate Michael Mullaney launch his general election campaign.

 

Speaking to the meeting Michael Mullaney said "Seven years ago local members chose me to stand for the Lib Dems in our area.

 

"Over that seven years we've campaigned on many issues. I successfully campaigned with you to save the Ambulance Station in Hinckley from being closed.

 

I've campaigned to save local bus services when they were under threat

 

I've campaigned to reform planning laws so we have more local control over where house building takes place

 

I've worked to ensure that pensioners in sheltered accommodation keep their warden service when Leicestershire County Council cut the funding

 

I'm campaigning to save libraries in rural areas

 

And I believe it's time our area had the NHS services our large growing population needs which is why I'm campaigning to bring A and E and Maternity services to Hinckley and thank you to everyone who has signed the petition on that.

 

"At the last election I finished a close second to David Tredinnick. All the signs knocking on doors is that this time it will be even closer.

 

"People tell me they want a change, to have a local MP who will campaign for serious local issues."

 

Special guest at the campaign launch Baroness Liz Barker said "In Michael Mullaney the people of Hinckley will have a hard working MP who will stand up for local services. He will be an MP who campaigns for much needed community health services."
