MICHAEL MULLANEY WELCOMES £162,200 FOR TWO LOCAL CHURCHES

Local Councillor Michael Mullaney has welcomed news that two local churches will be sharing £162,200 of funding from The Listed Places of Worship: Roof Repair Fund. The money is for urgent repairs to public places of worship across the UK. All Saints Church, Kirkby Mallory and St James Church, Newbold Verdon will both benefit from the scheme.

All Saints Church Kirkby Mallory have been awarded £65,200 and St James Church, Newbold Verdon will receive £97,000. Overall, 55 cathedrals and hundreds of churches across England have benefited from the £20 million fund, which will ensure that these valuable national monuments remain in a good and safe state of repair in order to welcome the public.

These repairs will also prevent further deterioration of the fabric of these listed buildings, ensuring that they remain in good repair for generations to come.

The fund had previously been advertised by Cllr Mullaney back in December and he was delighted that two local churches were successful in bidding.

Cllr Michael Mullaney said: "Churches and other places of worship form an integral part of our communities in Leicestershire. I'm sure the parishioners of Kirkby Mallory, Newbold Verdon and the surrounding areas will be over the moon at the news that their churches will be receiving £162,200."
