MP should not take pay rise
Bosworth's Conservative MP David Tredinnick has been urged to refuse the proposed MPs pay rise and donate it to good causes.
The Independent Parliamentary Standards Authority (IPSA) has recommended a pay rise of 10% for MPs taking their salary to £74,000.
Michael Mullaney, the Lib Dem candidate for Bosworth pledged to give any MP pay rise to charity if he were elected. He has now called on David Tredinnick to do the same.
Michael Mullaney said "At a time when Public sector workers, nurses, teachers and others are being expected to accept 1% pay rises it is totally wrong for MPs to accept an inflation busting 10% rise.
"If I were the MP I would give that extra money away to good causes. I call upon David Tredinnick to do the same.
"Last year Mr Tredinnick appeared on Channel 4 News defending 1% pay rises for people in the Health Service and other public services. It would be total hypocrisy for Mr Tredinnick to accept a 10% pay rise whilst telling other workers to accept only 1% rises."
