MULLANEY VOWS TO FIGHT CONSERVATIVE ‘DEMENTIA TAX’

Elderly local residents are "outraged and dismayed" by the Conservatives' plans for a 'dementia tax', according to Lib Dem parliamentary candidate Michael Mullaney. He has vowed to fight the plans, which would see the Conservatives take people's homes to pay for their care.

Research by the Lib Dems has revealed that 95% of homes in Hinckley and Bosworth could be eligible for sale to meet Theresa May's so-called 'dementia tax'.

Michael said: "The Conservatives' 'dementia tax' is a cruel and heartless policy, which will hit elderly and vulnerable residents across our area. Those who need the most care will be hit hardest. It is a disgrace.

"It is no wonder that local residents are outraged and dismayed by the Conservatives' plans. Many have worked hard all their lives to leave something to their children, only to find now that it will be taken away.

"The dementia tax shows the Conservatives are taking people for granted. May's refusal to set out any detail shows she has no plans to ditch this policy. The public deserves to know now, not after the election.

"Local people need a new MP who will serve them and campaign against the "dementia tax", not another 5 years of the same ineffective Tory MP who will just serve party bosses.

 

"I will fight the 'dementia tax', and push for a cap on the cost of care. The Lib Dems would put a penny on income tax to give social care in Leicestershire the cash boost it needs."
