No Christmas cheer for Leicestershire from the government
The Conservative government has announced its financial settlement for local councils
Councillor Simon Galton leader of the Lib Dem's the main opposition party on Leicestershire County Council said "This is bad news for Leicestershire. Where is the news that we will get fair funding for Leicestershire? For years we have been at the back queue for government support in Leicestershire. All the evidence from this latest deal is that we are still getting a raw deal from government"
Leicestershire Lib Dem's Finance spokesman Councillor Michael Mullaney said "Looking beyond the spin and the warm words the hard facts are clear. There is no Christmas cheer for Leicestershire from this Conservative government. Between 2019-23 officers at the County Council predict Leicestershire will receive 40% less money from the government. Those cuts will mean people in Leicestershire being hit by higher council tax bills while seeing savage cuts to services.
"Scrooge is alive and well in this Tory government and sadly Leicestershire continues to be there hardest hit target. As a county we receive less per head from this Tory government than any other county. We have all Tory MPs in the county yet they totally fail to argue our case within the government. It's time our area had MPs who will speak up for Leicestershire people and their hard-pressed services."
