Local health campaigners took to Hinckley Market on Monday running a stall with a petition calling for the maintaining of the Mount Road Hospital and improvements to local NHS services.

With queues to sign the petition forming at times over 700 people signed the petition in just one day. This adds to the 3,000 people who already signed the petition.

The Market Stall was organised by Lynda Gibbs who has been running the save Mount Road Hospital campaign group.

Amongst those helping out on the stall was Hinckley Lib Dem County Councillor, Michael Mullaney.

Michael said "It is clear from the reaction of local people that there is a huge demand for maintaining and improving our NHS services in the Hinckley area. Hinckley is a growing town and there is a clear need for more health facilities not less.

"I hope the local Clinical Commissioning Group will listen to the strong views of local residents and support new health facilities coming to Hinckley. Such as a Walk-in Centre or a Minor Injuries Unit."
