Pavement Safety Campaign Success
A campaign to make the pavement outside a Hinckley shop safer has been a success.
Some irresponsible motorists had been cutting across the pavement in front of the "One Stop Shop" on the corner of Stoke Road and Wykin Road to avoid the roundabout. This had led to a number of near-misses where people were nearly hit by cars.
Hinckley Liberal Democrat Councillors David Bill, Dave Cope, Michael Mullaney and Don Wright lobbied the Borough Council to get more bollards put up to prevent cars cutting across the shop front.
The Borough Council contacted the Regional HQ of One Stop Shop, who have now put up the new bollards.
Cllr David Bill said "This is great news. The actions of a few irresponsible motorists could have caused a serious accident, now the bollards are up these drivers will not be able to cut across the front of the shop."
Cllr Michael Mullaney added "A number of people had reported near misses with cars, so many thanks to the shop's HQ for getting these bollards up, it will now be much safer for shop staff, customers and pedestrians using this part of Stoke Road."
