Petition calling for local Co-Op to be saved gets strong response

12 Dec 2015

A petition, calling for the threatened Hinckley Co-Op store to be kept open has been submitted to Co-Op managers.

The petition, organised by Hinckley Lib Dem councillors collected over 550 signatures.

The popular department store on Castle Street Hinckley is one of six department stores, the other five being nearby in Warwickshire, that the Heart of England Co-Op propose to close.

Hinckley Lib Dem Councillors have written to the Heart of England Co-Op, enclosing the petition and asking them to reconsider the closure plans.

Hinckley County Councillor Michael Mullaney said "Lots of local residents are extremely passionate about the town's Co-Op Department Store. Many people have signed the petition to keep it open and I hope the Heads of the Heart of England Co-Op will rethink and keep this much loved Hinckley store open.

"The Co-Op rightly says it values its roots in local communities, a good way it can show that is by changing it's mind and keeping the Hinckley Co-Op open".
