PUB SECTOR TOPS UP LOCAL ECONOMY BY OVER £26 MILLION - MICHAEL MULLANEY

10 Mar 2015

Hinckley and Bosworth Lib Dem Councillor Michael Mullaney has praised the pub and brewing sector as a 'major driver' of our economy. Figures show that local pubs and breweries 'top up' our economy by over £26 million per year.

Research by Oxford Economics found that in Hinckley and Bosworth there are 93 pubs and 1 brewery, providing employment to 1,411 local people both directly and indirectly.

The gross value added by pubs and breweries in our area was £26.1 million. The figures also show that wages paid by pubs and breweries put £14.2 million back into our local economy and these businesses have invested around £1.3 million in more facilities and services.

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough Council is one of 36 Council's who support the Campaign for Real Ale (CAMRA's) Pubs Matter campaign by supporting a proposal under the Sustainable Communities Act to urge the Government to protect pubs.

Michael Mullaney said: "Our pubs and brewing sector are a real driver of economic growth and activity in our area. I want to pay tribute to all the brewers and publicans in our area who really do make a difference. They create and invest millions of pounds in the local economy."
