Residents in the village of Fenny Drayton oppose cutbacks to their local bus service. That was the main finding of a survey conducted by local Liberal Democrats in the village recently. The Cresswell Number 7 bus that connects Fenny Drayton to Nuneaton one way and Ashby De La Zouch the other has been cutback to only one bus every two to two and a half hours. This follows a decision by Conservative run Leicestershire County Council to reduce its subsidies for bus services. Previously the bus had been hourly, then became every ninety minutes before the latest cutback. The Cresswell 7 also stops in other local villages including Witherley, Ratcliffe Culey, Twycross, Sheepy Magna and Parva and many other villages in the West of Hinckley and Bosworth. Survey organiser Michael Mullaney said "From the responses it is clear that this is a big issue in the village. Many residents raised it as a concern.
"People are encouraged to use public transport to reduce the carbon footprint. To cut back the frequency of this bus service by so much will discourage people who drive from using the bus. It will also make life for those villagers who rely on the bus as their only means of transport much more difficult.
"I have written to Leicestershire County Council asking them to reconsider this decision.
"I'm aware that there are financial difficulties at the moment. However Lib Dems on the county council have identified huge reserves at the County Council that could be used to help fund a more regular service."
