Richmond win points to Lib Dem success in Bosworth
Lib Dems in Hinckley and Bosworth have welcomed the party's victory in the Richmond by-election and believe it points to future success for the party nationally and locally.
Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Bosworth Cllr Michael Mullaney said "In October the Lib Dems got a 19% swing from the Tories in the Witney by-election. Now the Lib Dems have gained a seat, Richmond on a 21% swing to the Lib Dems. This is a seat which elected a Conservative MP with a 23,000 majority at the last election.
"The swings to the Lib Dems have been vastly greater than the one the Lib Dems need to gain Bosworth from the Conservatives at the next election. We've also had by-election success here in Hinckley gaining a seat in Barwell in a by-election last December and winning a seat in Burbage in a Conservative ward this July.
"If the people of Bosworth want a change from Mr Tredinnick at the next election the Lib Dems can provide that change. Local people want a new MP who will live locally and fight on the important issues affecting our local community like the state of our local NHS and the need to defend and expand our health services locally.
"The collapse in the Labour vote in Richmond played a key part in the Lib Dems gaining the seat. If people want a change here in Bosworth they know that only the Lib Dems can beat the Conservatives"
