Shocking figures show Hinckley and Bosworth one of worst places for social mobility in the country

Figures from the Social Mobility Commision's State of the Nation Report 2017 show Hinckley and Bosworth is one of the worst places for social mobility in Britain. Hinckley and Bosworth came near the bottom of the league, 305th out of 324 places, for social mobility.

Leicestershire County Councillor Michael Mullaney raised the issue with the leader of the County Council at the recent County Council meeting. Michael said "All children and young people deserve a fair chance in life. Hinckley and Bosworth being near the bottom of the league for social mobility means many local young people missing out on opportunities to succeed in life.

"For years Leicestershire schools have been some of the worst funded in Britain. These figures on social mobility show the result of this underfunding of local schools is young people being held back.

"It's time the Conservative government and Conservative County Council acted to get fair funding for local schools, to ensure all children and young people here in Hinckley and Bosworth get the best start in life."

According to the Social Mobility Commission's report, the East Midlands was the worst part of Britain for social mobility. The publication of the report led to the entire Social Mobility Commission resigning, on the grounds the government weren't doing enough to champion social mobility.

Michael Mullaney added "Children and young people in Hinckley and Bosworth deserve the same opportunities as young people in the rest of the country. The shocking findings of this report are that local young people are not getting a fair deal, it's urgent the government acts to deal with this problem"
