The battle to be Bosworth’s next MP
Local Lib Dem Councillor Michael Mullaney's campaign to be Bosworth's next MP has got off to a flying start. The Lib Dems say that they have already called at many local homes and that people see a clear choice locally.
"We are getting a tremendous response," says the Lib Dem challenger Councillor Mullaney. "People want someone to fight for the area and to talk sense in Parliament," he says.
Councillor Mullaney came a close second to David Treddinick at the last General Election. He says that, "this time, people know that the battle is clearly between me and David Tredinnick,"
"My priorities include fighting to get improved Accident and Emergency and Maternity services, with facilities in Hinckley. Many people have already signed the online petition. I also want to see local communities have more control to prevent unsuitable over-development.
"David Tredinnick's views on using astrology in the NHS were branded "lunatic" by the respected Professor Robert Winston. He was banned from attending Parliament for taking cash for asking questions. People were shocked that he claimed on his MP's expenses for a course about "intimate relationships."
"Labour have already thrown in the towel and asked their local helpers to go to Loughborough as Labour stand no chance in this constituency. Votes for Labour, UKIP or the Green will only help David Tredinnick to win narrowly again.
"So my appeal this time is to make sure that people use their vote carefully and make sure that it counts. It will be a very close contest. Anyone not yet registered to vote should immediately go to the Electoral Commission website to make sure that they have their say about who is the most suitable MP for Hinckley and Bosworth in the next Parliament."
