A leading member of the local Green Party has joined the Liberal Democrats in order to beat Bosworth's Conservative MP at the next election.

Mathew Hulbert, a local freelance journalist and broadcaster, was the Leicestershire Green Party's press officer.

He has decided to join the Liberal Democrats as he believes only their candidate Michael Mullaney can beat Bosworth's Tory MP David Tredinnick at the next election.

Speaking as he joined the Lib Dems Mathew Hulbert said "I believe Hinckley and Bosworth needs a strong voice in Parliament and that Michael would be that voice-speaking up for local people, campaigning on local issues and defending public services."

Michael Mullaney said "I'm delighted to welcome Mathew to the Liberal Democrats, he will make a great addition to the local team.

"In recent elections the Liberal Democrats have shown that they are the only realistic alternative to the Conservatives in Bosworth. At both the 2007 Borough elections and the 2009 County elections Bosworth Lib Dems gained many council seats from the Conservatives.

"Labour meanwhile came fourth in Bosworth last year at both the County Council elections and the European elections.

"If enough Green and Labour supporters switch to the Lib Dems we can defeat the Conservatives in Bosworth at the next general election."
