Winter gritting review needed
A Hinckley Councillor who has been leading a campaign for better gritting in the town is now calling for an urgent review of the gritting provision across the area.
Cllr Stuart Bray (Lib Dem, Hinckley Castle) says his warnings about the poor state of the gritting on many Hinckley estate roads have been vindicated during the recent cold snap.
Cllr Bray, who organised a petition last month about the poor gritting in roads around Hollycroft Park, has been warning about gritting provision across the area since last March. Many residents have been effectively housebound over the past few days because of the poor state of many roads.
Cllr Bray said, "Many residents have contacted me about the conditions over the past few days.I have been warning County Hall since last Spring that improvements are needed to the gritting services but my pleas have so far been ignored. Residents are now asking why they should pay their full quota of Council Tax to Leicestershire County Council, and it's very hard to disagree with them. An urgent review is needed of the current gritting arrangements and better plans need to be put in place to grit more roads during icy weather."
"It isn't just Hinckley that has suffered. Council colleagues from right across the Borough have backed my campaign. It is clear that many residents right across the Borough are not happy with the service they have received."
