Many parents in Hinckley and Bosworth to get help with childcare costs

A major childcare package is set to help 2,970 parents in Hinckley and Bosworth, Liberal Democrat parliamentary spokesman Cllr Michael Mullaney said today. Working families will be given up to £2,000 to ease the cost of childcare as part of a scheme to be rolled out in Autumn 2015. The Government has said it will provide 20 per cent support on childcare costs up to £10,000 per year for each child. For example, it means a family with two children under 12-years-old could benefit by up to £4,000 as a result. Cllr Michael Mullaney said: "Today's news provides a huge boost to hardworking families in Hinckley and Bosworth "The Liberal Democrats are committed to building a stronger economy and a fairer society and this helps children get off to the best start in life." The Government has also said people on Universal Credit will get 85 per cent of childcare costs fully covered. Michael Mullaney added: "These measures will help parents to go to work and provide security for their families."

Call for more regular trains through Hinckley

A Hinckley Councillor is calling for the restoration of the twice-hourly rail service connecting Hinckley to Birmingham and Hinckley to Leicester. Hinckley Councillor and Lib Dem Parliamentary Spokesman for Bosworth Michael Mullaney is putting a motion forward calling for the improved rail service to the Borough Council meeting being held on the 20th of February. Cllr Michael Mullaney said "There is a demand from many local commuters to bring back the twice hourly train services through Hinckley. "The Hinckley urban area, including Burbage, Barwell and Earl Shilton is one of the largest in the region yet has a very limited train service. "I carried out a survey of local residents recently and one of the regular transport issues raised was the need for a more regular rail service through the town. "With Hinckley a growing town there will be more demand for a regular rail service. "I hope the Borough Council will support my call for a more regular train service through our area and I hope that Cross

Call for action to tackle speeding on a Barwell road.

A councillor is calling for action to tackle speeding on a Barwell road. Cllr Mathew Hulbert (Lib Dem, Barwell) has raised the issue of speeding on Stapleton Lane in the village after being contacted by residents last year and this year. Councillor Hulbert has raised the matter with both Leicestershire County Council Highways Department and Leicestershire Police. He says, "I raised this issue in September last year and I know work has been done, with Police monitoring using their speed guns and the Parish Council has also been monitoring with its speed monitor, which I very much welcome, but I've contacted both the Highways Department and the Police again to find out if more can be done. "I continue to be contacted by residents in regards to this matter, which shows that it continues to be somewhat of a problem. I look forward to working with partners to see what more can be done to ensure motorists abide by speed limits when travelling down the road."
