Call for action to tackle speeding on a Barwell road.

A councillor is calling for action to tackle speeding on a Barwell road. Cllr Mathew Hulbert (Lib Dem, Barwell) has raised the issue of speeding on Stapleton Lane in the village after being contacted by residents last year and this year. Councillor Hulbert has raised the matter with both Leicestershire County Council Highways Department and Leicestershire Police. He says, "I raised this issue in September last year and I know work has been done, with Police monitoring using their speed guns and the Parish Council has also been monitoring with its speed monitor, which I very much welcome, but I've contacted both the Highways Department and the Police again to find out if more can be done. "I continue to be contacted by residents in regards to this matter, which shows that it continues to be somewhat of a problem. I look forward to working with partners to see what more can be done to ensure motorists abide by speed limits when travelling down the road."

The petition was organised by Hinckley Lib Dem County Councillor Michael Mullaney and local Lib Dem Borough Councillors Jeff Bannister, Lynda Hodgkins and Keith Nichols. This Thursday the County Councils Planning Committee will be deciding on whether to allow a planning application for the Big Pit, a nature feature behind Asda, Hinckley to be filled in to allow houses to be built on it. The petition opposing these plans highlights concerns that filling in the "Big Pit" could increase the risk of flooding to nearby properties, and that there could be fifty lorries a day taking materials onto the access route on Ashby Road, Hinckley. Petition organiser Cllr Michael Mullaney (Lib Dem Hinckley) said "Clearly there is very strong opposition amongst the people living near the site of the Big Pit to these plans to fill it in. Free To Be Who You Are

As liberals, we believe that true equality is achieved when individuals are not only free from prejudice and discrimination, but also free to fulfil their potential. So fighting for LGBTQ+ rights is not a choice Liberals make.
