Phone masts stopped

Plans to put three mobile phone masts up in residential areas of Burbage have been stopped. The applications for phone masts on Hinckley Road, Rugby Road and Three Pots Road in Burbage were unanimously rejected at last night's meeting of Hinckley and Bosworth Council's planning committee. Hundreds of residents in Burbage signed a petition, organised by Liberal Democrat Cllr Stuart Bray, opposing the phone mast plans Cllr Bray said "I'm glad the planning committee have listened to the concerns of local people and stopped these inappropriate masts. "Everyone knows we need phone masts, however they should be sited in industrial areas, not in the middle of residential areas as these masts would have gone."

Residents urged to take advantage of delay in Compost Site decision

The decision on plans for a compost site between Fenny Drayton and Higham on the Hill has been delayed. The Compost site was due to be debated on and voted at the County Council's Planning Control Committee this Thursday 17th November. However, the issue has now been pulled from the meeting as County planning chiefs are waiting for further information from the applicant. The issue is now likely to be debated at the 15th December meeting of the Committee. Liberal Democrat Councillors Bill Crooks and Michael Mullaney, who collected a petition of several hundred names against the plans, have urged local residents who haven't yet done so, to use the time to write in opposing the plans. People can object to the compost site plans by writing to Planning Department, County Hall, Glenfield, LE3 8ST or emailing planningcontrol@leics.gov.uk, quoting the reference number 2011/0499/04

Council leader slams Olympic Torch decision

Hinckley and Bosworth Borough council leader Cllr Stuart Bray has hit out at the decision by Olympic organisers not to include Hinckley and Bosworth on the Olympic Torch route. Cllr Bray is writing to Lord Coe to express his disappointment. Cllr Bray said "Britain hosting the Olympics will provide a once in a generation experience. I am deeply diasppointed therefore that residents of Hinckley and Bosworth will not see the torch without having to travel a significant distance. "Hinckley is the 2nd biggest town in the county and we are located on several key transport routes. In my view it would have from a logical place to bring the torch through and I will be asking Lord Coe to reconsider." Hinckley and Bosworth Borough council will be hosting a series of events related to the Olympics in the run up to the event.
