Conservative plans will take lunches away from 18376 children in Leicestershire

Over 18,000 schoolchildren in Leicestershire will lose out on free lunches, under plans announced in the Conservative manifesto. Free school lunches for pupils from reception to Year 2 were introduced by the Liberal Democrats in government, but Theresa May now plans to scrap them. The changes would cost families an average extra £480 a year for every child. The Liberal Democrats have called on Conservative candidate David Tredinnick to make it clear whether or not he/she would vote for the plans. Liberal Democrat candidate for Hinckley and Bosworth Cllr Michael Mullaney commented: "This Conservative manifesto shows the nasty party is back. "Margaret Thatcher was known as the milk snatcher, it seems Theresa May will go down as the lunch snatcher. "She is cynically snatching meals away from thousands of children in our area. "Bosworth's Conservative MP David Tredinnick must now say whether he will vote to take away free lunches from the children of hard-pressed families. "The Liberal Democrats

Lib Dems will invest £34million to protect school funding in Leicestershire

The Liberal Democrats have announced they will invest £34 million more in schools and colleges in Leicestershire over the next parliament. Lib Dem parliamentary candidate for Bosworth, Councillor Michael Mullaney said "Children in Hinckley and Bosworth are being taught in overcrowded classes by overworked teachers - but Theresa May doesn't care. "Under the Conservatives, funding per pupil is set to see the biggest cuts in a generation, while billions of pounds are being spent on divisive plans to expand grammars and free schools. "This extra £34million of funding would ensure no school and no child loses out. Here in Leicestershire we have some of the l

County Council election results point to close fight in Bosworth at general election

The County Council elections have set the scene for a close two horse race in Hinckley and Bosworth at the general election according to local Liberal Democrats. Hinckley and Bosworth elected 5 Conservatives, 4 Lib Dems and no Labour County Councillors. In the Bosworth constituency it's even closer. Of the 8 County Council seats that are entirely in Bosworth constituency the Lib Dems and Tories won 4 seats each. Amongst the successful Lib Dems was their parliamentary candidate Michael Mullaney who won Hinckley De Montfort. Michael said "On paper De Montfort was a Conservative Lib Dem marginal, the fact we've won it comfortably shows we can really challenge David Tredinnick's grip on the parliamentary seat at the general election. "At the last two general elections I came a solid second to David Tredinnick. These County Council election results show that we are set for another two horse race between the Lib Dems and the Tories.
