Councillors welcome protecting of "The Paddock" greenspace
Councillors in Hinckley have welcomed the decision by Hinckley and Bosworth's Planning Committee to turn down plans to build on "The Paddock" greenspace. An application for ten houses on the site of "The Paddock" off Coventry Road, Hinckley were voted down by the Planning Committee on Tuesday night. The decision to turn down the plans was proposed by Cllr Keith Lynch (Lib Dem Hinckley Clarendon) and seconded by Cllr Diane Taylor (Lib Dem Hinckley Clarendon) Lib Dem County Cllr for Hinckley Michael Mullaney said ""The Paddock" is a piece of green space that residents in the Coventry Road area have campaigned for years to keep. Many residents will welcome the news that the Planning Committee has voted to protect this natural habitat, the last piece of original countryside left in the Coventry Road area of Hinckley." Hinckley Councillors call for green space to be saved
Hinckley Lib Dem Councillors David Bill and Michael Mullaney are calling for the green space called "The Paddock" off Coventry Road in Hinckley to be saved. The Paddock is subject to a planning application, which if passed would see it built on. Cllrs David Bill and Michael Mullaney have written a joint statement to the Council's Planning Department urging rejection of plans to build on The Paddock. Their submission said "In line with the stand taken by residents and their elected represntatives for the last 15 years, we again wish to object to the proposal to build on this site as it is the last remaining stretch of original countryside remaining in the Coventry Road area." The decision on the application will be taken at Tuesday's meeting of Hinckley and Bosworth Planning Committee

Local Lib Dems win national membership award
Liberal Democrats in Hinckley and Bosworth are celebrating winning an award for the biggest increase in membership in the country. So far this year local Liberal Democrats have increased their membership by nearly a 100 new members. They were awarded a prize for this by former Party Leader Lord Paddy Ashdown. Cllr Michael Mullaney, Lib Dem parliamentary spokesman for Bosworth said "Local people were keen to support the work being done by local Lib Dems. We campaign hard on local issues, like saving Hinckley's Ambulance Station and work all year round in the community. New jobs are coming to our area through the Enterprise Zone at Mira on the A5 near Hinckley and the jobs coming with parcel delivery firm DPD to Sketchley Brook. After 26 years of David Tredinnick as our MP many local people are keen for a change to an MP who will campaign on the local issues of jobs and services." Hinckley Councillors call for local landmark to be saved
Hinckley Liberal Democrat Councillors are campaigning for a local landmark to be saved. The "Big Pit", a popular local water feature which is off Ashby Road, Hinckley, is threatened with being filled in and houses being built there.. The planning application for this has gone into Leicestershire County Council. Local Lib Dem Councillors have written in to oppose the plans. Hinckley Lib Dem County Councillor Michael Mullaney added, "I hope as many residents as possible will sign our petition online at www.bosworthlibdems.org.uk to save the "Big Pit" from development.
