Councillors call on Royal Mail to limit planned price rises

Two Hinckley Councillors have written to Royal Mail urging them to limit their planned rise in stamp prices. Next month the price of First Class stamps are likely to rise from the current 46p to an unspecified amount, whilst Second Class stamps are due to rise from 36p to somewhere between 46p and 55p. Liberal Democrat Councillors Michael Mullaney and David Bill have written to Royal Mail urging them to limit the rise in the cost of stamps. Cllr Michael Mullaney (Lib Dem, Hinckley Trinity) said "We urge Royal Mail to limit their planned rise in the price of stamps. The government's Coalition agreement included a pledge to make the first £10,000 people earn Income Tax free. The aim is to complete this by 2015. Liberal Democrat Cllr Michael Mullaney has submitted a motion to the council which calls upon the Council to write to the Chancellor George Osborne calling on him to speed up the tax cut. Michael Mullaney said "During these tough economic times people need a tax break. Liberal Democrats here in Hinckley and Bosworth realise this and that's why last month we froze Council Tax. "Raising the Income Tax threshold to £10,000 will give a tax cut to people on middle and low incomes here in Hinckley and Bosworth, and would mean several thousand of the lowest paid workers in our area paying no Income Tax at all. This would be a great way to reward work and make work pay. "I speak to people in Hinckle
